This
following blog is a report on the professional skills I have developed while
completing a Bachelor of Learning Management (Teaching) with CQUniversity. Two
sets of skills will be explored; one specific to the skills the university
aspires to help all graduates attain, which are known as Graduate Attributes. The
second set of skills are the skills obtained specific to the Bachelor of
Learning Management known as degree specific professional skills.
The Graduate Attributes are team work,
communication, problem solving, critical
thinking, information literacy,
information technology competence, cross cultural competence and ethical practice. While each of these
attributes will be explored two will be reported on in detail with
current research with evidence of the attributes. The two attributes chosen are
Team Work and Communication.
There are
many Degree Specific Professional Skills
which have been put into three domains. These domains are Professional Knowledge; which encompasses knowledge of curriculum
and essential learning documents, organising skills, planning skills, assessing
and reporting. The second domain is Supportive
Environment which incorporates behaviour management, building a rapport
with the learners, networks and partnerships, communication and working in a
team. Domain three is Pedagogy which
is the art and science of teaching and this contains strategies for teaching,
understanding how learners learn and Dimensions of Learning. Two of these professional
skills in the Pedagogy domain will be explored in depth. They are Behaviour Management and Organisational
Skills.
